CHRIS Rivet

Company: DuBois & King, Inc.
Title: Project Engineer
Age: 31

Career Highlights: The career highlight I am most proud of is the implementation of a project design on a local farm. Local farms are an important part of the history and economy of Vermont, so to be able to provide a product to ease the workload on this farm was a proud moment for me.

Community Involvement: My community involvement generally revolves around coaching soccer.  I have been coaching at a newer soccer club based in Randolph called Central Vermont Football Club (CVFC) for the past four spring soccer seasons, 2016 to 2019.  CVFC attracts athletes from approximately 20 towns in the Central Vermont area.  I have coached multiple boys teams ranging from ages 9 to 14.
I am currently coaching the Randolph Union High School Boys Varsity Soccer team and am in my second season.  This season the varsity team has participated in the after school program at the Braintree Elementary School to mentor and play soccer with the younger students.  This season I have also become involved with the recreational soccer program in town to provide advice and guidance to coaches.

What motivated you to live and work in Vermont? I was motivated to live and work in Vermont by the opportunity I received upon graduating from Norwich University; to work in nearby Randolph, VT.  I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Vermont up to that point in my life and jumped at the opportunity to stay in Vermont; instead of returning to my home state of Rhode Island.

Favorite part of your job? My favorite part of my job is having the opportunity to work on a variety of civil engineering projects from site design and stormwater to solid waste to agriculture.  Having a great team of people to work with along the way is huge plus too.

What is the best career advice you have received? The best career advice I have received was from a coworker; "Everyone makes mistakes, and that's OK."  The lesson to be learned was that we as people are expected to make mistakes and when that happens, whether in or out of the work place, it is important to be able to learn from the mistake and keep moving forward.

What three words best describe you: Dedicated. Patient. Kind.

Favorite Vermont escape: My favorite Vermont escape is Lake Groton.

Favorite downtime activity: My favorite downtime activity is walking or hiking with my wife, Liz, and dog, Luna.
