ELIZABETH Stillwell

Favorite Part of Job? The best part of my job is getting to interact with a diverse group of people throughout our state on a day-to-day basis. I enjoy working with Owners, Subcontractors, and my co-workers to successfully negotiate agreements, prevent risk, and ensure successful projects.

Most Inspiring Mentor: I have been fortunate to have many great mentors throughout my career, but the most influential person has been my mother. She is an accomplished businesswoman who provides sound advice, inspiration, and unconditional support in all of my endeavors.

Tell us something fun about yourself that few people know: I spent my summers during high school and college as a sailing instructor in North Carolina.

Favorite Hobby: I enjoy gardening, hiking, and camping. When not at the office, I like to fully engage in all of the outdoor activities available in Vermont.

Favorite Vermont Escape: I enjoy Niquette Bay or Philo for after work walks with my two dogs, Sadie and Rudy. These are quick hikes that provide amazing sunset views.

Favorite Social Media: Pinterest because it inspires my creative side and encourages me to do more DIY projects around the house.

Favorite Website: My homepage is the NPR website. I visit it daily because it is a concise and reliable news options.

Vermont Business Person you would like to have lunch with: The Honorable Marilyn S. Skoglund, Associate Justice of the Vermont Supreme Court.

Career Highlights: The most memorable highlight in my career has been receiving the Risk Management Professional of the Year award from the International Association of Insurance Professionals in 2014. It was such an honor to be recognized by this organization and to attend the Annual Convention in San Diego where I was able to network with insurance professionals from around the world.

Community Involvement: The Winooski Dollars for Scholars Board has provided a chance for me to meet students, staff, and faculty in the Winooski School District. This has provided a new perspective on the challenges that our schools face on a day to day basis. It is rewarding to see the connection between the community and school in Winooski continue to flourish and grow.  The Board’s mission is to expand access to higher education by involving and assisting the private sector in the support of students and in the encouragement of higher levels of student achievement.  This is such an exciting time for our organization, with the growth of Winooski’s vibrant downtown and surrounding business parks we have a wonderful opportunity to expand our reach in the community. It is our goal for 2014 -2015 to not only increase the scholarship funds given to students, but also provide scholarships for non-traditional higher learning paths.

As a professional my involvement in the International Association of Insurance Professionals and specifically the local chapter in the Champlain Valley has been so valuable. I became a member my first year in the insurance industry and quickly became active by joining a committee. The educational offerings have allowed me to expand my knowledge in a complex industry and the networking opportunities have given me the confidence necessary to advance my career.
