Dan Preston

39 | Director of Sales, Livian at KW Vermont
Residence: Windsor

Career highlight you are most proud of.
Transitioning from the recreation industry into real estate and persevering through the initial growing pains to build a successful business. Having the opportunity to serve others in their biggest financial and life decisions is incredibly rewarding.

Community involvement.
Includes coaching youth sports for the teams my son is involved with — wrestling, baseball and flag football. I also help out with activities on Mount Ascutney, whether it be skiing/tubing or special events like the haunted trail. With our team, I sponsor backpack drives and coat drives and donate Thanksgiving pies to local police and fire departments.

Motivation for living and working in Vermont.
I interviewed for positions all over the country and moved to Vermont, site unseen, for my first professional job out of college: working in the recreation department at The Quechee Club. Love for the outdoors and mountains were definitely deciding factors.

Favorite part of your job.
Meeting new people and helping them accomplish their goals. Every day is different, and I love having the opportunity make a difference in people’s lives.

Most inspiring mentor.
Adam Hergenrother, founder and CEO at Livian. He’s built one of the best real estate teams in the country, all from Vermont. As I transitioned into real estate, Adam gave me the opportunity to learn and grow through his team. I shared with him what I wanted for the future, and he helped put a plan in place.

Best career advice you have received.
Find someone who is doing what you want to do, follow the model and trust the process. Focus on getting better every day and accomplishing the most important tasks, and things will fall into place.

Something fun about yourself that few people know.
I once played in a four-day-long softball game in Minnesota to break the Guinness world record.

Three words that best describe you.
Fun, easygoing and determined.

Favorite Vermont escape.
Hiking in the mountains and exploring new areas.

Favorite Vermont season.
Summer. It’s a beautiful time of year and I love all the outdoor activities: kiking, biking, boating, grilling, camping, etc.

Where you see yourself professionally in the next five to 10 years.
Having expanded my business and team throughout the state, helping not only more clients, but other realtors, build their businesses and accomplish their own personal and professional goals.
