Favorite Part of Job? Having the opportunity to work with the dedicated and bright employees of the Department of Financial Regulation to fulfill the Department’s duel charge of protecting Vermonters and fostering fair and efficient financial markets in our state.

Most Inspiring Mentor: My parents have always set an excellent example by treating others fairly and with respect and through their strong commitment to give back to their community.

Favorite Vermont Escape: I would say it is a tie between the Dorset quarry and Burton Island State Park.

Favorite Downtime Activity: Playing golf or enjoying a Vermont craft beer.

Favorite Social Media: Twitter – it is a great way to stay up to speed on the news of the day.  

Career Highlights: Graduated cum laude from Union College with a degree in political science then received a law degree summa cum laude from the University of Miami School and served as editor-in-chief of the “Miami Law Review.” After law school practiced law in New York City at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP in the Mergers and Acquisitions Group before returning to Vermont to practice law at Downs Rachlin Martin. Was appointed deputy commissioner and then commissioner of the Vermont Department of Financial Regulation by Gov. Peter Shumlin.

Community Involvement: Member of the Vermont State Colleges Board of Trustees, member of the US Securities and Exchange Commission Advisory Committee on Small and Emerging Companies which focuses on improving the regulatory environment for small businesses, and serves as chairman of the corporate finance committee for state securities regulators.
