Olivia Lyons

26 | Communications and Marketing Manager, Chamber and Economic Development of the Rutland Region
Residence: Rutland

Career highlight you are most proud of.
Being hired by the Chamber and Economic Development of the Rutland Region. Working in Rutland to promote the entire county, create large community events and help those who have lived here for decades or only a few days has truly been a wonderful experience.

Community involvement.
Includes being on the board of directors of Come Alive Outside. As a director, I help plan, set up and/or attend most events the nonprofit organization hosts. I also lead one of Come Alive Outside’s fundraisers, which uses the proceeds to fund an outdoor gear library. A few events Come Alive Outside takes part in, like the Whoopie Pie Festival, is also hosted by CEDRR — a fun little overlap. Some Saturday mornings you can find me volunteering at Summit FC’s Saturday morning soccer. Nothing like a game of  Sharks vs. Minnows to kickstart your weekend!
Motivation for living and working in Vermont.
It sounds kind of cheesy, but I love this area. It has professional opportunities, proximity to the outdoors is top-notch, and my family is here.

Favorite part of your job.
Showing off how wonderful Rutland County is. I get to photograph stunning scenery and genuine people at fun events like chili cookoffs or Middletown Springs’ Pie for Breakfast, and then share the unique aspects with the world. This job allows me to help Rutland succeed, which makes my heart happy.

Most inspiring mentor.
Keith Oppenheim, my adviser and professor at Champlain College. He pushed me to reach my full potential, while teaching valuable lessons I will always remember. You rock, K.O.!

Best career advice you have received.
Go for it!

Something fun about yourself that few people know.
If you invite me to your wedding, I will get the dance floor going and be there until the last song ends.

Three words that best describe you.
Loyal, funny and vibrant.

Favorite Vermont escape.
Chittenden Reservoir, sitting by the water and listening to the loons, spotting an eagle, paddleboarding, fishing or hiking the nearby trails.

Favorite downtime activity.
Reading a book or going for a walk.

Favorite social media.
TikTok. Sometimes mindlessly watching videos is necessary.

Favorite smell.
On a daily basis, my morning coffee. On vacation, that first whiff of the salty sea air.

Person you would most like to share a Vermont beverage with.
My significant other.

Cause you would support if you had unlimited access to funds.
Cancer research, specifically further research into the various types of lymphoma.
Song on your playlist you are embarrassed to disclose to your best friend.

Honestly, I primarily listen to Taylor Swift.
Where you see yourself professionally in the next five to 10 years.
I hope to still have a job I look forward to going to each day.

Career goals you would like to accomplish in the next five to 10 years.
Increasing the appreciation for Rutland and its surrounding areas, and taking advantage of learning and traveling opportunities.
