NICK Managan

Favorite Part of Job: Definitely working for (and with) the farmers who own Cabot Creamery Cooperative. It gives a strong sense of purpose and pride to know that I am working on behalf of our farm families – and the open land, community involvement and way of life they support. I also love the variety my job offers. On any given day I could find myself on a farm, planning events, researching renewable energy or profiling one of our farm families for our Farmer Friday Blog (www.cabotcheese.coop/blog). I learn something new every day.

Most Inspiring Mentor: Aside from my parents and my wife, Elizabeth, the farmers are my biggest inspiration – they put in long, hard hours and then take the time to run the cooperative, promote their cheese and volunteer in their communities. Our motto around the office is ‘Work like a farmer today’.The mentors who taught me how to appreciate and own this position here at Cabot were Roberta MacDonald, Jen Neary, Amy Levine, Chris Pierson and Diana Meehan.

Tell us something fun about yourself that few people know: I was an actor in exactly one movie, as a favor to a friend who had to direct a film as a class project at UVM. My wife happened to be in the class and despite the film being shot months earlier, it was debuted just days after we first met.

The first time I called her, she said, ‘You didn’t tell me you were an actor’.

Favorite Vermont Escape: Summer visits to the farmer’s market, weekend stops with my son at Wallace Farm (our most local farm - https://www.cabotcheese.coop/wallace-farm) or Liberty Hill Farm (https://www.cabotcheese.coop/liberty-hill-farm), day trips to my childhood stomping grounds in Bellows Falls, Maple Weekend at both Couture’s Maple Shop (https://www.cabotcheese.coop/missisquoi-valley-farm) and Richardson Family Farm (https://www.cabotcheese.coop/richardson-family-farm) and weekend getaways to Lake Willoughby with the family.

Favorite downtime activity: I always fit in some exercise – whether a morning run with our dog, noontime basketball in Montpelier or Ultimate Frisbee with co-workers.

And nothing beats getting outside with my wife Elizabeth and our children, Henry Rosalie. We love hiking, sledding and cross country skiing. We also try to catch as much UVM Basketball (Go Cats, Go!) and Bellows Falls Football as possible.

Favorite Social Media: Facebook, for best allowing me to keep up with friends and family.

Person you would like to share a Vermont beverage with: You can never go wrong with a Vermont beverage in Vermont, but I would love to catch a drink with my old college adviser, Frank Bryan.

Where do you see yourself professionally in ten years? I would be incredibly grateful if I were still working for Cabot Creamery and promoting the World’s Best Cheddar, community involvement and local food on behalf of our farm families.
