RICH Hornby

Favorite Part of Job? I knew early on I had a passion for building teams.  After 12 years in the active duty military, I hoped for a role in making something tangible.  I’m grateful my position at Mack allows me to lead and take part in the revival of American manufacturing.

Most Inspiring Mentor:
I’ve been fortunate to have a number of great mentors in both my military and civilian career.  One that stands out is Colonel Bob Helgeson.  He taught and exhibited a strong commitment to excellence, unwavering integrity and service to others.

Tell us something fun about yourself that few people know: My middle name is Alden.  My family lineage on my father’s side goes back to John and Pricilla Alden, 2 of the original Pilgrims.

Favorite Hobby: I’ve played hockey since I was 5 years old.  I still enjoy being a goalie in the Manchester men’s league and couching my son’s squirt team.

Favorite Vermont Escape: My wife and I enjoy the fine restaurants in Manchester and Dorset.

Favorite Social Media: I like to keep up with former colleagues and friends on LinkedIn.

Favorite Website: I’m a big sports fan and I like for its coverage of the New England teams.

Vermont Business Person you would like to have lunch with:  It is impressive to see how much Green Mountain Coffee has grown.  I would like to meet with their Chief Product Supply Officer Robert Ostryniec to hear about his supply chain and manufacturing experience.

Career Highlights: My career highlight was my recent promotion to Plant Manager at Mack’s headquarters facility.  It has allowed me to pull from my leadership experience as an Air Force logistics officer.  I am fortunate to oversee a growing business with a strong staff of engineers and manufacturing professionals.  Additionally, I have responsibility for the profitability of the plant which allows me to use many of the tools I learned while working towards my Penn State MBA.

Community Involvement: I still serve as a Major in the Air Force Reserves as an Air Force Academy Admissions Liaison Officer.   I help students from Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts with their applications and congressional nomination process.  Additionally, I have always enjoyed coaching.  Both my wife and I coached the Air Force Academy’s club women’s lacrosse team.  I currently coach in the Northshire Bulldog Hockey program.
